Monro Muffler Brake & Service Complaint
Exhaust flex fitting needed replaced. - monroe muffler
Went in for appt, guy told me it shouldn't be too much, got the car on the rack and then waited for a response for half an hour. Finally the guy comes back, tells me I was right and that he would need to replace the flex joint and of course weld the new one in place.... All for a unreasonable price of ...... Dun dun duhhhhh..... 149 dollars.....
I immediately informed the manager that, that price was exceptionally high and he then counter offered for 129 dollars and some change.... I then told him that the price was still out of control and that if it was going to be that much then he could just take it off the rack because he and I both knew that it was a 15 dollar part and at most would take a half hour to do it if the guy doing it knew what he was doing...(he already said he would be doing it himself).....
At this point I counter offered and told him if he could do it for 100 bucks I'd let him do it and he immediately accepted the offer...he told me it was a prorated job that was rated for an hour of which I told him I had faith that he could do it in half the time lol...
The end result, was 21 mins from the time he walked out the door to the shop and the time he disconnected the ground on the welder... It took him another 3 mins to check my fluids and when he walked in and handed me my keys I told him I timed him....
"21 mins from the time you walked in the shop to the time you unhooked the ground, good job dude." He appreciated the compliment and of course it only validated my refusal to pay for an hour worth of labor and a highly inflated price on the part...
Needless to say, it should have been a 50-60 dollar job, but I was willing to pay the 100 because he got me right in and the part needed to be welded, which I didn't have access to a welder for another 5 days so basically I payed for an instant fix....
Customer service was great, but I wouldn't have them do any work done that didn't have a guaranteed price, like tires or and oil change or something that labor isn't charged on....
Set prices, yes, open ended labor / prices? No I'd have to pass....
At least we know we can negotiate and haggle a better price. I feel bad for people that just pay whatever they say because they feel they have no other option or think they are getting a decent and fair deal.
